UPDATES
2013 finds LCPH providing healthcare services to the Lamu community all year long; 6 days/week. Between our clinical officer, Aziza (see image, far left), and our new lab techs, the clinic offered free healthcare to over 5,000 patients last year.
A recent grant awarded by Mount Holyoke College has helped us establish an onsite laboratory to expand our screening services to include Malaria, HIV/AIDS, Typhoid, Rheumatism, H-pylori, and other diseases.
Another achievement was the success of the Fourth Annual Global Health Gala held at Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU). The LCPH student organization, which included our 2011 summer intern, Erick Henderson (see image upper right, at left, above), the LCPH board of directors, and many contributors and volunteers helped to raise funds so that LCPH can continue offering preventative healthcare services otherwise unavailable in Lamu. We look forward to this year's Gala on April 7th.
Finally, the International Health class at IWU selected LCPH as the NGO they targeted for fundraising on campus. This was another student initiative that spread awareness about the health challenges the people of coastal Kenya face and reaffirmed the connection between the people of Bloomington, Illinois and those in Lamu, Kenya.
We continue to be invigorated and appreciative of all these endeavors as we continue to move forward with our work.
